You can travel to Lion's Arch for free through several means:
By entering the Heart of the Mists and using the Asura Gate. Note: the first time you will need to complete a small tutorial.
By entering WvW and using the Asura Gate to Lion's Arch (pink one).
By entering Obsidian Sanctum and using the portal behind you. Note: puts you near the crafting area.
You can access most service NPCs (merchant, bank, etc) by entering WvW. Then go to the character selection screen and log back to be put right where you left.
Gameplay
Your traits can be reset for a fee at a trainer (found in any big city). They will also be reset when using a manual (at levels 11, 40 and 60).
When underwater your skill bar change. You will need to pick skills on keys 6,7,8,0 again.
Any food or potion gives a 10% experience bonus. You can have one of each for a nearly free 20% experience boost.
You can deposit all collectible items by clicking the gear symbol located top right of your inventory. You can later find them in your bank under the collectibles tab.
Melee attack assist is an option, enabled by default, which will most likely work against you. It is recommended to turn it off.
